Easy ways to bring out that natural emotion and connection from your clients
Beautiful and simple maternity poses are my go-to when photographing my clients. I love really capturing that authentic love and happiness. The excitement of bringing a new baby into the world and the fact that they are creating a their own little family. Here are some of the ways I achieve this:
Solo Maternity Poses
It is important to place significance on those solo maternity photographs. Yes, this moment is about BOTH the new mom and dad but it’s necessary to take a minute and just focus on the mom-to-be. Her body is experiencing something new on a daily basis. She is creating life and that’s a moment that needs to be captured to one day show that beautiful baby.
Tips for photographing new moms:
Communication is key. She should feel very prepared the day of the session.
Select a location that is easy for her to walk around.
Make sure she takes the time to select an outfit that she feels confident in. That will really show in the photos.
Posing tips.
Make it fun. Play music, get her laughing and keep complimenting her. All of those things will translate into amazing photos
Have her place her hands on her belly! This is one of those classic maternity poses and it is one that shouldn’t be missed.
Beautiful Couple Poses
Photographing couples is something I really enjoy. It is so great to see them interacting with each other and how every couple is different.
Tips for photographing couples:
Communication. And not just communication between the couple and photographer but between the couple themselves. It’s important they are on the same page and ready for the session. Outfit picked out, shoes selected and day and time noted. It is so easy to forget things.
I always love finding out if the couple has a song that has a special meaning to them. This will help to bring out emotion during the session.
Posing tips:
I like to direct my clients but also let their own personalities shine. Some people are more comfortable in front of the camera than others are. If I notice that the couple is particularly worried about the photo I try and stay away from prompts in the beginning and just let them interact. I will send them out a little aways from me and just ask them to talk to each other, interact, hug, kiss eventually they loosen up.
Connection is everything! I love asking the couples to place their foreheads together, this one simple movement makes the photo more intimate.
Pregnancy is all about those belly touches! Ask dad to place his hands on her belly.
To get that real sweet moment have the dad step in close to his wife and trace the lines of her face with his hands.
Still looking for a photographer? I would love to capture your growing love story!
